Welcome to the Show

Welcome friends, strangers, and assorted internet ne'er-do-wells to my Monoblog. For those inquiring about the name, it is a combination of blog (clearly, if you didn't catch that one I suggest a course in Remedial Ditch Digging) and monologue.

For years I have been interested in the concept of the monologue as used in the late night talk show format. I am not old enough to have really gotten into the old monologues of Johnny Carson as a child. I really only started paying attention when Jay Leno took over. I remember back in middle school I would set a VHS tape to record the first half hour of The Tonight Show and watch it the next morning while I was eating breakfast. I'd then take Jay's sharpest material and use it at school the next day.

Fast forward a decade or so, to when I was a little older and better educated. I'd moved way past recording the shows and began attempting topical humor of my own. Like most of the late night guys it's been fairly hit and miss over the years. Friends and co-workers have had to endure the inevitable joke failures as well as some spectacular but rare moments of comic clarity.

Which brings us to now, where thanks to the wonders of the internet and the suggestion of friends, I am going to start my own forum, my Monoblog. Through it I hope to sharpen my humor and maybe entertain a few of you along the way. I'm going to try to get the daily report around drive time, once a day, beginning July 1.

And so, the project begins. Lights up next Wednesday, and as always, I apologize in advance for the funny business.
